Tripoli covers an area of 154.4 sq. miles (400 sq. Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.9 million people being the largest, the capital city, the principal sea port, and the largest commercial centre in Libya.

The low-key resort of Janzur is located 12km (7 miles) from Tripoli; here attractions include a 200 year old mosque (Sidi Amara Mosque), underground tombs, museum and a decent beach.
